Abstract

Method of growing plants in an atmosphere of oxygen, water vapour and carbon dioxide, esp. under a low partial pressure of oxygen. The method is suitable for the growth of vegetable foodstuffs in deserts, space or on other planets. The low partial pressure of oxygen makes the possibility of explosion less likely. Furthermore a source of pure oxygen is available by photosynthesis from CO2. The CO2-contg atmosphere may be collected from a space in which man or animals. live, used for growing the plants and then returned enriched in oxygen for the animal life to breathe.
