Abstract

Aerobic microbiological de-paraffination of petroleum distillates takes place in the presence of a nutrient medium contng. insufficient N for micro-organism cell growth. Pref. N content in nutrient medium is up to 50% of normal requirement. Pref. process takes place in 2 steps, where up to 50% N is used in first and no N in second. Process is useful for prodn. of (i) fuels and lubricants for winter use, e.g. Diesel oil of low pour point, (ii) proteins, for animal foods, and (iii) lipids contng. triglyceride and fatty acids for soap prodn., steroids for vitamin D2 and hormone synthesis and phospholipids for confectionery and medicinals.
