Abstract

A method for making containers (beakers etc.) from thermoplastic foil, producing a cup section and a neck section pref. serving as a thin closure, is carried out as follows: a piece of plastic sheet, preheated to deformation temp. is clampled at the edge and, some way in from the edge is tightly gripped around a closed circle; the region between the clamped outer edge and the grip ring is stretched to form a neck section, while the part inside the ring is blow-moulded or vacuum moulded, opt. also with mechanically pre-stretching, to form the cup section. In the pref. appts., the plastic sheet is clamped across the mouth of a hollow mould, a complementary frame pressed it against the mouth of the mould, and the frame and mould are then moved perpendicular to the sheet, while its edge remains fixed. A plunger moving still further perpendicularly to the sheet and inside the complementary frame assists in stretching the cup portion.
