Abstract

The machine consists of a square table with a row of mandrels along each side and can be indexed by 90 degrees at a time between four operating stations. In the 1st a 1st shell of one heat-plasticised thermoplastic material is formed on each mandrel by injection moulding in a 1st set of split mould tools. The table is then indexed to the 2nd station and a 2nd set of split mould tools where a 2nd layer of a 2nd material of similar characteristics is deposited over the inner shell also by injection moulding to form a laminated blank. At the 3rd station, the shells on the mandrels are placed in blow moulds and the final hollow vessels are moulded. At the 4th position the vessels are unloaded from the mandrels. Typical materials are polyethylene followed by PVC or acrylic acid, polystyrene or a cellulose as 1st material followed in each case by a copolymer of acrylonitrile and ethylacrylate. Improved sealing and strength.
