Abstract

A roller of soft absorment, open celled, platic material, e.g. polyurethane is provided to remove the residual developer image from a liq. developed photoconductive surface after image transfer. The roller is (I) free to rotate as the photoconductive member passes in a first direction towards the transfer station, but is prevented from rotation during passage of the element in the reverse direction after transfer, or (2) a single such roller is used both to apply developer during movement towards the transfer station adn to remove residual developer during reverse movement. Other embodiments utilise various arrangements of such rollers to develop and clean the photoconductive element in conjunction with a supply of carrier soln.
