Abstract

The salts are prepd. by a double decomposition reaction between, a basic Bi salt (pref. held in soln. by a polyol sequestrant, esp. sorbitol) and an aq. soln. dispersion of a xanthane gum (pref. that from the fermentation of Xanthomonas campestris NRRL B-1459 using a sugar nutrient) in the form of an alkali metal (pref. Na) salt. The salts are of formula:- R-(COO)m- Bi(OH)2 nMp (where R = the polysaccharide gp.; m = the no. of carboxylic gps. on R; M = an alkali metal; n+p = m; n is ca. = m).
