Abstract

1369497 Bacterial incubater H STAMER 20 Oct 1971 [23 Oct 1970] 48741/71 Heading C6F [Also in Divisions B1 and F2] A bacterial incubating container 1, Fig. 1 has a sealed lid 2, an opening 5 for the introduction of a cannula 22, a thermometer standpipe 3 housing a thermometer 12, and an immobile mixing vane or propeller blade 16. The lid is held firmly by tightening a stressing screw 19 and bar 17. Opening 4, normally closed by a sterilized cotton wool plug, is covered by a flame 21 or stream of hot gas when the cannula is inserted. Nutrient medium, inoculant and fermentation liquor are charged or discharged through the cannula. The contents of the container may be mixed and cooled (when necessary) by placing the container on a rotating disc in a water bath.
