Abstract

The lid is held firmly by tightening a stressing screw 19 and bar 17. Opening 4, normally closed by a sterilized cotton wool plug, is covered by a flame 21 or stream of hot gas when the cannula is inserted. Nutrient medium, inoculant and fermentation liquor are charged or discharged through the cannula. The contents of the container may be mixed and cooled (when necessary) by placing the container on a rotating disc in a water bath.
