Abstract

A massecuite (a mass of sugar crystals mixed with mother liquor) is prepd. in a grain generator, which consists of a discontinuous crystallisation appts., from a fraction of the juice to be treated, this is fed continuously to a continuous crystallisation appts. with the other fraction of the juice and with the massecuite coming from the storage tank, which is fed by the grain generator. The cost of the plant can be reduced because some of the vessels can be made of less noble metals than those used for the continuous crystallisation appts. Further the grain size distribution of the seed crystals produced in the grain generator is reduced as compared with that of the seeds produced by grinding in conventional plants.
