[Class 127] A sugar syrup for domestic use is prepared from sugar beets or other root crops, by cutting the beets into slices, shreds or dice, boiling in water, adding a small quantity of lime and continuing the boiling for a time not sufficiently long to form a pulp. The material is strained and the separated juice evaporated to a viscous syrup which may be preserved in bottles under a covering of wax.
