Abstract

285,518. Jones, J. June 17, 1927. Topping root crops.-The hopper 11 of a beetcleaner is provided with means for topping the beets as they are inserted. The beets are inserted into the triangular openings 13 and moved towards the narrow ends of the openings into the path of a cutter 12 which severs the tops, whereupon the roots fall into the hopper. The cutter may be of the reciprocating type, but as shown consists of an eccentrically mounted disc, the edge of which is preferably serrated.
