Abstract

A cyclone is used to separate a powder from a carrier gas and then deliver the powder, by gravity, directly into a wet agglomerator comprising two opposed horizontal discs, one fixed and one rotating, between which pellets are formed by rolling the wet powder. The gap between the plates should be adjustable to provide a simple control of pellet size. By eliminating the screw conveyor often used to transfer powder from a separator to an agglomerator, advantage is taken of the degree of granulation initiated in the cyclone; this may be assisted by forming a helical channel in the cone of the cyclone to encourage rolling action.
