1288796 Active carbon TAKEDA YAKUHIN KOGYO KK 12 Dec 1969 60724/69 Heading C1A [Also in Division F4] Active carbon is produced in a cyclone furnace 1, into which granulated carbonaceous raw materials are charged from hopper 4 by screw conveyer 3, preheated air and steam are supplied through funnel shaped distributer 9, and recirculated and other oxidizing gases are introduced through one or more tangential conduits 7. The particulate product leaves the furnace from outlet 11, impurities and ash being either continuously or intermittently discharged through pipe 10. An agitator (not shown) may be provided to help discharge the latter. The carbonaceous material may comprise charcoal made from eucalyptus wood, lignite or coal, and is reacted in the furnace at a temperature between 850‹ and 1200‹ C.
