Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove water from brown coal without heating, by granulating brown coal with relatively high water content into a suitable particle size, follwed by pressing it mechanically at a pressure of not less than specific temperature.
CONSTITUTION: Brown coal with water content of not less than 15 wt. % (remarkable effect can be obtained in the case of water content of 60W70 wt. %) is granulated into an average particle diameter of 2W10 mm and pressed mechanically to separate water, which is removed from the system. One of devices available is a type wherein the coal is pressed between a pestle and a mortor, for example, a batch type device wherein a top and a bottom pestles are set on the top and the bottom parts of the mortar and a rotary type device wherein the coal is pressed between two rollers rotating in the opposite directions.
