Abstract

The mould is filled from a heated crucible containing molten metal which is placed under pressure so that metal is forced up an inclined feed-pipe to the pouring hole in the top of the chill mould. The metal is thus poured under gravity into the mould giving rise to improved intercrystalline cohesion compared with that obtd. in pressure pouring processes. the feed-pipe may be decompressed so that the metal runs back into the crucible when the mould is full.
