Abstract

Device for forming a cover for the liquid metal in a freshly poured ingot enables it to be moved without spillage and consists of a cardboard box which fits the mould divided into two horizontally by a partition. The lower part is filled with a remelting powder while the upper part contains an insulating exothermic powder. The two powders react one after the other when the box is placed on a mould to form a crust which protects the metal which is still molten while the mould is moved.
