Abstract

Vinyl copolymer compsn consists of a copolymer (I) of vinyl acetate and a dialkyl maleate with C3-10 alkyl gps. in the form of particles with a size below 5n dispersed in a liquid med. consisting of an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer (II) contg. 18-60% wt vinyl acetate and one or more org. solvents which dissolve copolymer II but do not dissolve copolymer I. The compsns have a good stability and good film-forming properties, so that they are esp. useful in paints. High amts. of pigments and fillers can be incorporated in the compsn, and the films have excellent properties. The paints can be applied to wood, concrete, plaster and metal esp. ferrous metal surfaces.
