Abstract

Thin coatings for walls and ceilings, able to be applied manually or by spray, contain principally a limestone rock powder, partic. CaCO3 or marble powder, sand and a binder consisting of a vinyl acetate copolymer, with the addition of thickeners and absorption inhibitors. The copolymer is pref. modified with a water-soluble melamine-formaldehyde resin, polymerisable in the cold and stabilised by SiO2 gel, or is stabilised by a vegetable oil, heat-treated with lime, and dissolved in white spirit. The coatings are intended to be painted and, as they are neutral, any type of paint may be used. The coatings remain malleable for 1/2 to 1 hr. but drying is rapid after this. The coatings have good adhesion, and are sufficiently thixotropic to stop flow.
