Abstract
Octane rating of a gasoline blend of 5 - 6C hydrocarbons (containing not 10% n-alkenes is improved by (a) isomerisation of the n-alkenes to iso-alkenes over a catalyst comprising oxides (opt. acid-treated) or fluorides of Gp. III and IV elements at 70 - 800 degrees F, 0 - 500 psig and LHSV 0.1 - 10 and (b) hydrogenation of the alkenes to alkenes over a Co molybdate, Ni, Pt or Pd catalyst at 70 - 700 degrees F, 0 - 1000 psig, LHSV 0.1 - 10 and H2 feed rate 500 - 5000 scf/bbl. Isomerisation catalyst is pref. acidified Al2O3, Hydrogenation is pref. carried out at 550 degrees F, 400 psig LHSV 1.k and H2 feed rate 1500 scf/bbl. over a Co molybdate catalyst.
