Abstract

A gasoline (petrol) fraction containing C5- and C6-hydrocarbons and unbranched paraffinic hydrocarbons and comprising more than 10 % by weight of C5-paraffins, more than 10 % by weight of C6-paraffins and more than 90 % by weight of C5- and C6-paraffins and less than 2 % by weight of benzene is brought into contact, at elevated temperature and elevated pressure, in the presence of hydrogen, with a fixed bed of a catalyst containing platinum on a mordenite support material, where the molar ratio A between hydrogen and feed has, with respect to a standard quantity AM, which is defined as follows: Am = 340.B<0.4>.C<4>.(1 - 3D) DIVIDED 1 + 100 C<4> where B, C and D represent parameters of the composition of the feed, which are defined in Claim 1, the following relationships: a) 1.0 >/= A >/= 0.5 if AM is < 2.24; b) A > 1.0 and AM >/= A >/= 2265.AM<-8.6> if 2.40 >AM >/= 2.24; c) A > 1.0 and AM >/= A >/= 0.5 AM if AM is >/= 2.40. In this way, a maximum value for the product of yield of C5+-hydrocarbons and the octane number of these hydrocarbons is achieved.
