Abstract
A process for obtaining a fuel with high octane number comprising: (a) reacting hydrogen and a naphtha, containing cyclic hydrocarbons, in a first reaction zone, in contact with a catalyst comprising a noble metal component of the group viii and a mordenite support material, and converting long chain paraffins to lower boiling isoparaffins; (b) reacting the resulting first zone leaving fluid, without intermediate separation thereof, in a second reaction zone, and in it catalytically reforming, substantially in the same reaction atmosphere as in said first reaction zone, naphthenic hydrocarbons for form aromatic hydrocarbons; and (c) recovering high octane number fuel from the resultant second zone leaving fluid.
