Abstract
1350285 Selective hydrogenation; isomerization BP CHEMICALS INTERNATIONAL Ltd 27 April 1972 [14 May 1971] 14932/71 Heading C5E 1-olefins containing more than three carbon atoms are removed from hydrocarbon feedstocks by contacting with hydrogen and a catalyst comprising Rh, Pd, Os, Ir or Pt at 0‹ C. to -70‹C. 1-butene is removed from a feedstock, also containing isobutene, cis and trans butene-2, saturated hydrocarbons and trace amounts of diolefins, and which is to be used to prepare 2 methyl butene-2 by the co-dismutation of isobutene and butene-2, by being in part hydrogenated to butane and in part isomerized to butene-2. The catalyst can comprise 0À005-1 wt. per cent of the noble metal on alumina and the reaction can be carried out at 0 to 140 bar in the liquid phase at a LHSV of 0À1 to 30 or in the gas phase at a GHSV of 20 to 6000.
