Abstract
The blast furnace is operated with a main coke feed and a supplementary fuel burned outside the furnace, the decompsn. products being blown into the furnace. The reduction in furnace temp. is compensated by increasing the blow temp. or by O2 enrichment. Operating conditions are changed from one equilibrium state to another, which involves a large decrease in the amt. of indirect reduction which occurs. The heat saved is used to raise the temp. of the added decompsn. products, so that when the second equilibrium is attained, the enrichment or blow temp. increase can be partially or completely obviated.
