Abstract

Alkyd resins are prepd. by hot reaction between (i) carboxylic diacids or their anhydrides, (ii) polyalcohols and (iii) carboxylic monoacids alkylated or dialkylated in the alpha- or alpha, alpha 1-posn(s)., where cpd. (iii) is a 7-25 C acid contg. an even number of C-atoms in the main chain and a butyl gp. in the alpha-posn., or a glycidylic ester of it. The resins may be used e.g. in paints. varnishes, glazes, anti-corrosion layers for protection of decoration.
