Abstract

The articles are passed through a strongly inhibited acid bath, through a cleaning bath, through a passivation bath in which micro-deposits are formed on the surface, coated with a resin or a mixture of resins with good extensibility and mechanical resistance and finally through conditioning vessels to ensure hardening of the coating. The inhibited acid bath is pref. Perinox A (RTM) at about 40 degrees C and the passivation bath is pref. Cromix (RTM) in 4% soln. at 60 degrees C. An epoxide resin is suitable for coating, esp. in conjunction with a polyamide hardener and may form 40% of the coating composition which may also include tar oil. Drying and hardening may be by hot air and/or infra-red heating. The process gives corrosion resistant prestressed cables with good extensibility which can be removed and replaced.
