Abstract

Primary reactant is fed via a radial inlet port to a cylindrical reaction chamber, pref. shrouded with a coolant or heat exchange device to control the subsequent reaction. Secondary reactant debouches from the terminal of a narrow tube axially slidable within the primary tube to feed reactant to the reactor at variable points within its length. The course and unstable intermediates of the reaction may be examined at the outlet duct and correlations made between residence times, flow rates and contact times to gain information concerning the reaction kinetics.
