Abstract

Spray drying vessel is of rectangular cross-section, and has lower section of triangular cross-section. Liquid or suspension is sprayed into it and contacted with a current of warm air, the dried material falling into lower part of vessel and being collected and removed by a pneumatic conveyor system consisting of a movable duct with one or more suction orifices, connected to a suction unit. Pref. duct is flared in downstream direction and has a longitudinal slot, being rotated or oscillated about an axis parallel to base of vessel, has a number of axially spaced slots and is reciprocated along base of vessel. Unit is esp. used for milk products and is less susceptible to blockages.
