Abstract

Continuous production of carbon fibre-reinforced metal wire is effected by the passage of a thread of loosely bunched together carbon fibres through a bath of the molten metal intended to form the metal wire, followed by the drawing of the carbon thread soaked with the metal through at least one drawing die so as to effect a reduction in the cross sectional area and an increase in the packing of the carbon fibres. The resultant metal wire has enhanced strength as compared with all metal wire. The preferred metals used for making the wire are aluminium, copper and alloys containing these metals as main constituents.
