Abstract

Malonic acid dinitrile is prepared by heating acetonitrile in the gaseous state at 600-1100 degrees C for 0.1-15 secs., rapidly and immediately cooling the reaction product, and separating and recycling the unreacted acetonitrile. The acetonitrile is heated at 700-950 degrees C for 1-12 secs., and is then rapidly and immediately cooled to a temp. of 30-15 degrees C.
