Abstract

An edible protein material which is digestable and is rich in amino-acids of high nutritive value is prepd by heating a non-comestible protein material e.g. chicken feathers, cattle hooves, claws, lungs, offal etc. in a digestion medium comprising water and an alkali metal carbonate phosphate or borate buffler to maintain the pH at 8-10 in a closed system at 115-135, pref. 120-130 degrees C for a time sufficient to digest all the protein pref. 10-30 mins under a water-vapour pressure of 2.05-2.75 kg/cm2. The protein so prepd is used in animal feeds.
