Abstract

Process for continuously producing hollow containers from a long piece of rigid plastics sheet comprises (a) longitudinally scoring the sheet on a hard surface by means of a non-driven blade to form at least two continuous longitudinal score lines intended for use as folding lines, (b) folding the sheet inwardly, and laying it out flat in a continuous manner along the score lines, and (c) sealing the free longitudinal edges of the folded sheet to form a flattened tubular strip. The process enables hollow containers to be cheaply and efficiently produced from rigid plastics sheet, such as transparent, biaxially oriented polystyrene sheet. Containers with a variety of shapes and sizes can be easily produced. The containers are useful for packaging articles of all kinds.
