Abstract
The electrode consists of a mixture of an electron collector and reforming catalyst such as nickel and porous alumina powder. A commercially available catalyst such as G56 (GIRDLER SUDCHEMIE KATALYSATOR-GMBH) may be used. The reforming catalyst transforms hydrocarbons such as methane into carbon monoxide and hydrogen. The electrode is deposited as a film upon a solid electrolyte such as a zirconia/yttria mixture. Higher yields are obtained and the need for separate reforming of the hydrocarbons is removed.
