Abstract

A lower cylinder applies pressure to an upper cylinder mounted on a bridge transporting the skins which pass between the two, a cutting blade being provided for subdividing the skins. The bridge consists of a rigid section and an intermediate elastically deformable crosspiece supported by the rigid section for part of its length but separated from, it for the rest of its length, and provided with roller bearings for the transport cylinder together with devices placed between the elastically deformable and rigid sections at the separated portions to further separate the two so that the transport cylinder acquires a curved profile. The separated portions of the bridge elements may be at the ends or in the centre. The separating devices are pref. double effect hydraulic cylinders whose traverse is limited by threaded pins and nuts controlled by handwheels.
