Abstract

A polyurethane foam is compressed into a continuous sheet as the basis for a non-leather shoe upper material, or a shoe liner. This material is impregnated with a bonding agent, and then coated with a polymer to give a finished material of a density between 0.3 and 0.9 g/cm3 and with 16 to 40 pores/cm to provide a leather substitute which will allow steam and vapour to pass through but which is resistant to water.
