Abstract

The pigments are made by addition of a combination of a long-chain aliphatic mono or polyvalent amine and a long-chain aliphatic carboxylic acid to the aqueous pigment during manufacture or after precipitation. The molar ratio of acid to mono-amines is from 0.9:1 to 0.1:1, (pref. 0.5.1) to diamines from 1.9:1 to 0.1:1 (pref. 1:1) and to triamines from 2.9:1 to 0.1:1 (pref. 1.5:1). The total amount of both additives is from 5 to 25% by wt. Use of excess amine of the types described results in quicker and better dispersion of the pigments in aromatic media such as toluene, and production of printing inks with good flow prodperties. An example of additives is N-oleyl trimethylene diamine with oleic acid.
