Abstract

1356253 Azo pigment compositions CIBAGEIGY (UK) Ltd 4 May 1971 [6 May 1970 16 July 1970 (2)] 21754/70 34428/70 and 34429/70 Headings C4A and C4P Diazo pigment compositions containing a pigment derived from a tetrazotized benzidine and a coupling component, both components being free of water-solubilizing groups, and a water-soluble azo dyestuff or an insoluble metal salt of an otherwise water-soluble azo dyestuff are described. They are prepared by carrying out the coupling to form the pigment in water and incorporating the water-soluble dye at any stage in the aqueous medium before isolation of the pigment. The water-soluble dye may be formed in situ and converted into an insoluble salt in situ. The properties of the pigment compositions are improved by treatment of the aqueous slurry with solvents, 0À1 to 30% by weight of a C8- C22 fatty alcohol, polyol or diol or 0À1 to 35% by weight of a C 1-20 aliphatic amine, amine salt or amine oxide based on the wieght of dry pigment.
