Abstract

An improved filter unit of the type using sedimentation followed by gravity filtration through a strainer element, comprises a vertical, cylindrical strainer element set above a sludge collection chamber which is surrounded by a coaxial, annular, sedimentation chamber. When fed with a dispersion, such as polluted effluent, some sedimentary materials overflow from the sedimentation chamber into the sludge chamber; the liquid rises and passes over into the filtration section to pass through the straining element. The unit is of monobloc construction built upon a tankwork base. It is cheaper and more compact than its predecessors.
