Abstract

Humid and otherwise contaminated air is compressed and cooled to above its liquefaction point to condense the humidity to water. This is then separated along with the other contaminants, leaving dry clean air. The latter is introduced into a sterling cycle engine which is thereby kept ice-free. Specifically the dry compressed air may be precooled to below its condensation point and fed through a heat-exchanger cooled by air evaporating from a liquid air storage tank. This cools the compressed air to below -18 degrees C for introduction to the Sterling cycle engine.
