Abstract
Scrap and flux are added to the melt during blowing and the basic melt is cast onto a flux already in the hearth to form a primary slag. The melt is brought to 1550 degrees-1575 degrees C and blown with O2 while scrap is added at a rate ensuring the maintenance of melt temps. of at least 1500 degrees C. The furnace may be a Martin furnace. The process is quicker than prior art processes.
