Abstract
Prepn. of 6-aminopenicillanic acid (I) by splitting penicillins with amidase enzymes and (1) using the enzyme separately from the broth in which it is produced; (2) adsorbing the enzyme on a bentonite for content with the penicillin; and (3) effecting the reaction in a medium maintained at pH 7-9 with NH3 or a cyclic amine. Increased yields of (I) and increased amounts of penicillin can be split for a given amount of enzyme; (I) used to prepare penicillins.
