Abstract

Corrosion inhibitors comprising one or several alkanolamine borates. Suitable comps. contain 10-95% wt. alkanolamine borate, 1-3% wt. of a nitrite and 2-60% wt. of a benzotriazole (pref. opt. substd. (2-mercapto) benzotriazole). The cpds. may be produced by reacting boric acid or a meta-, tetra-, or penta-borate of alkali(ne earth) metals or ammonium with at least a stoichiometric amt. of alkanolamine. Cpds. are effective in aqueous and non-aqueous systems, resistant to pH changes, effective down to 0.1% by weight and can be used in contact with rubber.
