Abstract
Polymerisation of ethylene in gaseous phase in a reactor with an agitated bed, in the absence of solvents or suspension agents, is effected under a pressure superior to the critical pressure, while transporting by means of excess gaseous monomers or by inert gas, the heat to a heat exchanger placed outside the reaction chamber, in which the heat is removed, the cooled monomers and/or inert gas being recycled to the reaction chamber, the ethylene being always present in a single phase, and the flow velocity of the gas, relative to the transverse reaction of the reactor, being less than 2.0cm/sec. The process enables the heat formed during ethylene polymerisation in the gas phase to be continuously removed, so that the reaction temp. can be exactly controlled.
