Abstract
Quartz envelope for ionic argon laser has inner surface coated with a thin layer (about 2000 angstroms) of aluminium oxide, at least along the trajectory of the gas discharge, whereby the adsorption of argon atoms on the quartz surface is eliminated and the service life of the laser is extended about 10 times. The coating is formed pyrolytically by reaction between AlCl3, CO2 and H2 in the vapour phase.
