Abstract

Removal of occluded air from powders is achieved by arranging for the materials e.g. a powdered fertiliser such as KCl, to be fed to the gap between the smooth rolls from a vertical feed hopper maintained at a sub-atmospheric pressure by connecting it to a vacuum pump. The feed of material to the hopper enters via a lock chamber e.g. a star valve.
