Abstract
Prodn. of acrylonitrile by reacting acetonitrile with formaldehyde in the vapour phase, in presence of phosphates of metals of Gps. I and II as catalysts. The catalyst must be supported, pref. on silica gel or magnesium silicate. Prefd. catalysts are phosphates of Cd, Ca, Zn or Li. Molar ratio of formaldehyde/acetonitrile is 1-2/0.5-25. 32.3g of a mixture of acetonitrile and 35% aqueous formaldehyde soln., in molar ratio 14:1, are passed through an evaporator, then over a catalyst based on calcium phosphate, at volume flow 2,500 h-1 and temp. 400 deg.C. 32 g of condensate are obtained, contng. 6.22% acrylonitrile. Yield in relation to formaldehyde admitted is 75%; yield in relation to formaldehyde reacting is 95%.
