Abstract

The two polymers have different m.pts. and they are charged as powders or granules into a rotational mould which is rotated and held at a temperature above the m.pt. of one of the polymers but below the m.pt. of the other to form an outer continuous skin of the lower melting polymer. The mould is then raised to a temperature above the m.pt. of the higher melting polymer for a time sufficient to complete the sintering of the polymers a reservoir of unsintered particles being held at the lowest point of the mould until complete sintering is effected. Heating of the mould is pref. effected by an oil jacket or by spraying a hot liquid, e.g. a molten salt, on to it. Suitable thermoplasts include polyolefins e.g. polypropylene, nylon, e.g. nylon 6, polyvinyl compounds and cellulose acetate butyrate and suitable combinations are (1) polyethylene and polyaminoundecanoamide, (iii) PVC and PVOH, (III) PVC and nylon, and (iv) PVC and polyethylene.
