Abstract
1,190,379. Rotational casting of thermoplastic powders. AQUITAINE-FISONS Ltd. 7 Dec., 1967 [8 Dec., 1966], No. 54964/66. Heading B5A. Hollow mouldings of a thermoplastic polymeric material, which are internally lined with a second polymeric material of higher melting point, are moulded by charging both materials to a mould which is heated to a temperature, intermediate the respective melting points, as the mould is rotated about one or more axes so that a reservoir of unsintered particles remain at the lowest point of the mould as an outer continuous skin of the low melting point thermoplastic material is formed by sintering, the mould then being heated to a temperature above the higher melting point to complete the sintering of the particles to form the internal lining. The mould is heated by a hot liquid spray, e.g. of molten salts, or may be jacketed and oil heated. The mould may be heated to above the higher melting point before all the first material particles are sintered whereby bonding between the layers of material is enhanced. The thermoplastic polymeric materials may comprise combinations of a low density polyethylene with polyaminoundecanoamide, polyvinyl chloride with polyvinyl alcohol or a polyamide or a polyethylene. Other materials which may be used are polypropylene, polycaprolactam or cellulose acetate butyrate.
