Abstract

1,160,961. Moulding containers with partitions. BAKELITE XYLONITE Ltd. 22 May, 1967 [25 Feb., 1966], No. 8391/66. Heading B5A. A thermoplastics container with one or more partitions extending wholly or completely across it is formed by placing a preformed partition in a mould with at least a portion of the partition against the mould where a wall is to be formed, pouring thermoplastics material into the mould and heating the mould to allow the material to solidify and to attach the partition to the wall. The partition may be formed of thermoplastics material of higher melting point than the container material, or may be a metal panel coated with thermoplastics material at the ends where it joins the container wall. It is preferably located in grooves in the mould wall and may divide the container into non-communicating compartments or have cut away portions allowing communication. The container may be formed either by filling the mould with thermoplastics material, heating the walls until the desired thickness of material is built up and pouring out the excess material, or by rotational casting about two convergent axes. The moulding material may be polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamides, vinyl chloride both plasticized and non-plasticized and copolymers from the associated monomers.
