Abstract

1,256,255. Moulding containers for explosives. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 10 Sept., 1970 [6 Oct., 1969], No. 48892/69. Heading B5A. [Also in Division F3] A method of moulding a shaped charge container having a plastics case 10 for containing a high explosive charge, an integrally moulded, plastics cavity liner 11 containing a conical layer of metal 13, e.g. copper, and a sealed chamber 15 providing a "stand-off" for the charge, comprises placing the copper cone in an appropriately shaped "split" mould (not shown) so as to divide the mould into two chambers corresponding to the chambers 14 and 15, adding the plastics material to each of the chambers, heating the mould whilst it is biaxially rotated, and finally cooling and removing the mould. An aperture 16 is then cut in the ease for charging it with explosive or it may be formed during the moulding operation. The copper cone is supported in the mould by four small notched projections with the consequence that four small areas of the cone are not covered by plastics material. The plastics material comprises polythene, polypropylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride or a liquid thermosetting resin.
