Heat stable polymer based on quinazoline has formula: (where R is alkyl e.g. Me, Bu, etc.; Ar is aromatic or bivalent heterocyclic radical and n is no. such that final polymer has inherent viscosity at 0.5% concn. in m-cresol of 0.1 pref.0.4 to 3.0 at 30 degrees C). This polymer is prepd. by reactg. a diamine H2N-Ar-NH2 with >=1 bis-benzoxazinones of formula (II): These polymers have very high heat stability and are used for making films and varnishes.
